Profile Summary

First and foremost, I am an educator—a facilitator of adult learning. As a psychologist, college instructor, licensed Mental Health Counselor, social worker and author, the common threads connecting the services I provide are my passion for learning and teaching. Whether teaching and advising students in a college classroom, providing distance coaching to graduate students working on dissertation completion, conducting clinical training for professionals, or counseling individuals and couples in my private practice, I am an advocate for critical thinking and reasoning and lifelong learning.

As on-campus adjunct faculty, I often taught students in "standing-room-only" courses. Currently I teach a course developed for Udemy exploring personal and professional applications of daydreaming (enrollment is 112). In the community, I created and administered grant-funded programs that assisted 100's of individuals with special needs to lead more productive and independent lives. I also provided contract social work services to Home Health and Hospice agencies, developed Defining Moments (a reminiscence-based program for hospice patients), facilitated bereavement and staff support groups, helped recruit and train hospice volunteers, and conducted numerous in-service training seminars. Example: I developed and led a 1-day educational workshop on stress management for 40 medical professionals. In my private practice I continue to counsel individuals and couples in the process of personal growth.

As a writer, I serve as a Huffington Post contributor; Stress Topic Expert for the GoodTherapy blog; developed curriculum and designed courses; and authored books and articles. My most recent book is Person-Centered Communication with Older Adults: The Professional Providers Guide (see Publications section below).
