Interview with TechCast Expert Dan Abelow
In a world characterized by limitless consumption and finite resources, there is an unquestionable need to break the patterns of stagnation currently existing in politics and business. TechCast Global expert of the month, Dan Abelow, sheds light on the world as it exists today and how a more optimistic future can be reached.
The modern world faces severe challenges, ranging from rising sea levels to increasing poverty. According to Abelow, "Today's leaders are not improving the situation and are not producing the sweeping changes needed to foster prosperous nations... We're all talking about the changes, but no one is making them." Abelow acknowledges the vast array of technological and digital innovations of the modern era, but understands this global transition as only one step towards a sustainable and thriving future.
"As we move forward with technology, we are basically on the cusp of a major new transition in human history. We are building a digital planet. However, the companies leading this transition aren't looking at where the world needs to be; they're looking at how to monetize," he said.
Abelow remarks that we aren't headed to the future we want. The shape of society we are emerging into is one where more and more jobs are being replaced by technology. This creates a barbell society, with clusters of the rich on top and the impoverished on the bottom, connected by a thinning middle class.
Our hope for the future lays in a new understanding of technology and digital landscapes. "We need to look at technology in an architectural way. Technology is, in some ways, many pieces of a larger architecture that can be assembled to create a buildable blueprint."
Abelow's latest invention, Expandiverse, aims to do just that. Expandiverse outlines a Digital Earth which aggregates networks of technology and patents to create an interconnectedness which will be accessible to individuals, groups and societies. The purpose of Expandiverse is to create more efficient digital realities which will exist in an â??always on' manner and will complement physical reality. This would contrast today's on-off internet and would allow for continuous real-time efficiencies that will be utilized by all sectors of society. This disruptive change could create a more capable future to which we may look forward.
Abelow remarks that TechCast Global is a very helpful resource for understanding how the future will exist. "The aggregate of expert information is essential for global strategy, especially 5 and 10 years outâ?¦ You can see arguments for why technologies may work or may not work, and there are really good summaries of what experts think and how." TechCast Global plays an important part in forecasting the future and understanding digital capabilities and social networks.
On behalf of the TechCast Global team, we thank Dan Abelow for his insight and contributions to the expert network.
